Shoni Schimmel, a member of the
Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, is the subject of
Off The Rez, a documentary being shown at the upcoming
Tribeca Film Festival.
The film follows Schimmel during her standout season at an off-reservation high school in Oregon. Schimmel now plays for the University of Louisville.
“I’m hoping it opens people’s eyes to give more Native American athletes a shot," producer Nelson Hernandez told The New York Post of the documentary.
